Sunshine And Ecstasy Abound In 'Sunny Day (2014)' Video

The music video for pop artist Francis Bowie’s popular single “Sunny Day (2014)” was released this morning, dGenerate Records announced.

The video, which can be viewed on YouTube and other music video sites, was directed by manager and dGenerate Records label chief Michael Jones. Shot on location in Los Angeles and Denmark, the video features actress Stephanie Danielson alongside Bowie in Jones’ reinterpretation of the song as a pseudo-psychedelic experience on the drug ecstasy.

The bright and energetic single is the second release from Bowie’s upcoming concept EP, “Sex, Drugs and Thrilling” due out this fall, also on dGenerate. The EP was produced by Justin Trugman (Backstreet Boys, Eminem, JoJo and Mickey Avalon) and Jeff Blue (Linkin Park, Macy Gray, Limp Bizkit, Korn, and Hoobastank).

The “Sunny Day” video, as well as Bowie’s earlier “Number One” video, also directed by Jones, will be incorporated in a larger video project being released in conjunction with the EP.

“Be prepared for a pretty quirky video,” Jones jokingly cautioned. “What you see on screen is as much the product of everyone having a blast on the set as anything that was ever scripted.”

The ecstasy references “were a natural part of the story,” Jones explained. “The song has a very childlike quality. Francis Bowie sets aside the gin and regret of ‘Number One’ for sunshine and innocence in ‘Sunny Day.’ What better way a guy like Francis to sneak out of his big boy role and be a kid again than a drug like ecstasy?”

Bowie’s last single, “Number One,” made a splash on US radio last February, edging major artists out of the top spots on the charts. “Sunny Day (2014)” was released in June, first in Europe then in the US.

His exhilarating music, gender-bending sexuality and social commentaries made Bowie popular in his native Denmark. And after hearing his eponymously titled EP in 2011, critics worldwide raved enthusiastically. "Francis Bowie is like a powerful drug - you can't help but get sucked in after you're exposed to him once," raved EVOR reviewer Rory Richardson. Meanwhile, IndieMusicDigest hailed him as an "amazing creative genius." And Blushing Panda proclaimed, "It's like watching a male version of Lady Gaga at times. The sound is 80′s a bit like if Har Mar Superstar (just starting out) released music nowadays but with a modern twist."

Francis Bowie, whose name pays homage to the brilliant painter Francis Bacon and rock icon David Bowie, is a musical and visual artist. Rooted in rock and roll, Bowie led indie rock band A Love You before going solo in 2010. He's renowned in Denmark and beyond for his visual art and has been the owner of two art galleries.
