Ben Mauro To Endow West Genesee Music Department
Syracuse, NY— August 15, 2014 — Ben Mauro will present the first ever Ben Mauro Endowment for Music Education to his former high school during the upcoming Board of Education Meeting. West Genesee Senior High School’s Music Department will be the recipient of an annual donation starting this year (2014) and continuing for the next four calendar years. This endowment is Mr. Mauro’s way to give back to the school and community that helped launch him on the career path he enjoys today. Mr. Mauro is a talented Syracuse native who just finished an international tour playing guitar with Grammy Award winner Lionel Richie. He came back to Syracuse for the release of his most recent solo work, “Take Your Time” in May of 2014. During that visit Ben had the chance to drop in at West Genesee and see all of the wonderful improvements that have been made to the Music Department over the years. He decided shortly after that trip to make it possible for other music students to benefit in a small way from his success.
Teaching runs in the Mauro family; both parents taught and his brother is still a teacher, so Ben knows the importance of education. His ongoing annual gift is something that he wants to share with students to help them succeed.
“I’m proud to have gone to West Genesee and I would like to be a supporter of the school. There have been so many improvements to the music department since I went there. It looks like a college music department now! I want to be a part of making it even better and somehow help kids have a head start.” (Ben Mauro)
Mr. Mauro is one of most notable graduates from the school and wants current students to understand the importance of music education and how it has influenced his stellar career path.
The Future’s So Bright
Mr. Mauro will make a presentation to Bill Davern, Director of Fine Arts at West Genesee, during the Board of Education Meeting on September 3. The district has a history of being a community that supports the arts, having been recognized as one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” six years in a row by the NAMM Foundation. Ben is coming to Syracuse specifically to bestow the first Ben Mauro Endowment for Music Education and will be heading back into the studio after the ceremony to finish work on his new full length CD. He plans on returning to his hometown in December to share this latest offering from his musical odyssey that started right within the walls of West Genesee High.
