New System Allows Consumers To Enjoy Fast Growing MP3 Music Format In Their Vehicles

DETROIT, MI -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 27-02-2001 --

With the recent explosion of digital music, the downloadable MP3 music platform is gaining in popularity and has the potential to become a much larger market. Recent debates over downloadable music have increased consumer awareness on the use and availability of music formats such as MP3. Music enthusiasts are taking advantage of the easy-to-use MP3 format, downloading music from their computers to enjoy at home and in the office.

Until recently, listening to MP3 music was limited to sitting by your PC or listening to it over a hand-held portable player. Thanks to new technology, MP3 is now available for in-vehicle enjoyment.

Visteon Corporation, the world's second largest automotive systems and components manufacturer, is bringing in-dash MP3 technology directly to consumers with its new MACH MP3 Music System. The innovative system will be available to consumers in mid-March and sold through Visteon's Web site at www.evisteon.com. The system will retail online for $369.

"Industry data and consumer research tells us that the MP3 format is quickly becoming one of the preferred methods for listening to music with today's younger generation," said Neal Zipser, Marketing Communications Manager for Visteon Global Aftermarket Operations. "Having this technology available and integrated into a vehicle is a natural progression of making this technology available to today's consumer."

"We are seeing a trend in vehicles reflecting a person's identity and lifestyle," he added. "The introduction of in-vehicle MP3 technology was a logical choice aimed at those who are spending more and more time on the road."

The Visteon MACH MP3 Music System combines file playback technology with efficient memory storage, and plays both MP3 encoded and pre-recorded music CDs. The player also includes a full-featured AM/FM stereo radio. The system has features designed for in-vehicle convenience, such as a "Fast Track" system, which allows users to dial up or down to a specific track or music file, a "Scan and Seek MP3" option and full disc random shuffle.

The MACH MP3 is customizable and will be available in five unique faceplate skins, which allow consumers to give their vehicle a personalized look. Large, clearly marked and easy-to-use buttons allow drivers to easily operate the system, resulting in minimal driving distraction.

With the MACH MP3 Music System, drivers can enjoy up to 10 hours (or approximately 255 MP3 songs) of music on just one CD. The system supports two different directories, both a flat directory and a multi-layered directory. The flat directory holds all songs on one directory, allowing the user to sift sequentially through each track. The multi-layered directory recognizes folders, so drivers can listen to music they have grouped into specific folders. The system supports CDs recorded at 32 kps to 320 kps and is multi-session capable.

The MACH MP3 comes with an installation tool and is easy to install, typically taking just a couple minutes.
