TORONTO, CANADA – For as long as he can remember, Jesse Salvatierra has been in search of a deeper meaning to life. He’s looked for enlightenment and a purpose in life – often reading books and exploring new ideas. And recently he had the opportunity to go on a spiritual retreat in the Himalayan mountain region of India. It was there where this musician with the soul of a poet found clarity of purpose in his life. He returned home determined to share that enlightenment with the world through music. He adopted the stage name Jesse the Poet, and immediately went to work.
On June 30 he released his debut single, “Mama Said” – a house and dance track with a hypnotic beat and a summertime vibe that he said is just the first step in a career that will ultimately fulfill his mission to bring spiritual peace and inspiration to the world.
“I definitely want my music to provoke thought and get people to think of a memory or think of someone else,” Jesse said. “As I’m listening to this single I’m thinking about a certain girl who was trouble in my life, but every single listener has a different effect from the music. And that’s what I want with my music – to connect with the fans and spark their minds to think deeply. I don’t want to just create music that makes you bob your head or move your feet. I want to create music that when you really listen to the lyrics and hear some clever words, you’re put into a trance or provoked to deep thought.”
“Mama Said” is a single that utilizes synthesizers while taking listeners on a journey through a story of a guy pursuing a girl who he knows is no good for him. But he finds her so attractive that he just can’t help himself, and ends up following her into an unforeseen future, hoping for the best but knowing in the back of his mind that she’s trouble.
The song features an original compilation between Jesse the Poet and producer/engineer Dallas Hill. Jesse said he was inspired to write the song after hearing the beats presented to him by Dallas Hill. He also said it’s a song that is the first off an upcoming album he’s titling “Many Faces of the Poet,” which is slated to drop before the end of the summer.
“It’s an album where I want to show many different sides of my music and myself as an artist,” he said. “I’m very versatile in the sense of dance, house, R&B, pop, hip-hop, soul, poetic and spiritual music. I’m trying to show all the different faces of my music and personality. It starts with this upbeat song for the summer, but over the course of the whole project is shows all different types of genres.”
Jesse said the release of the new single and the upcoming album is not only the end result of a lot of hard work, but also the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to be a professional musician. He has always loved music and participated in musicals and choir performances throughout his childhood – and even made a promise with a college friend to pursue music. But it wasn’t until after his trip to India that he decided to pursue that dream, and the realization of that dream today is something he’s very proud of.
