Album Review: CYBORG ASYLUM - 'My Metallic Dream'

CYBORG ASYLUM is a musical group with two members. The duo consists of David Varga and John Tumminia. John has been signing since the age of 4. He also worked as a manager for other musicians. David has worked in media producing and composing music as a career. He writes and arranges all of the band’s music in his home studio. Their professionalism spills over first to their website. It works to enhance the vibe that they are looking to achieve. The same look is on the cover photo for their song My Metallic Dream. It contains a black hand on a white background, which goes well with their black and white music video for the song. The black hand is made up of robot parts: you can see them outlined in white. The hand just like a cyborg is part human and part robot. It appears to be wrapped in bandages of some sort and the hand seems to be moving to curl its fingers around the bandages.

Their music video Starts off with a man in a jacket with a gas mask on and in black and white the video sets the tone for the song very quickly effectively. The black and white adds a more serious tone to the song. Also black and white makes for a more elegant feeling video, and it allows the viewers concentrate more on the music. The video is intended to be ominous, dark and post-apocalyptic. The use of gas masks in the video, along with the black and white, and the location does well to fulfill these intents. John and David’s attire even complements the theme and helps them achieve cohesion. This consistency and cohesion is achieved because both of them have been highly involved with many stages of the creation and the marketing of music.

CYBORG ASYLUM has a video to go along with their song My Metallic Dream. It begins with intense instrumentals which sound mechanical in their precision. Even at this point they are looking to make their music sound robotic. One of the lines which John repeats is, “my strength is running low.” This phrase is a nod to the apocalyptic vibe they are looking for in their music. During such dire survival situations one must persevere and keep your strength up. “Why can’t you hear the metallic sound around us,” this is also pointing the same direction that the other repeated line pointed towards. They are both hinting at the theme for the video; however this other line is indicating the cause for the apocalypse, robots.

My Metallic Dream is a great piece especially for those who enjoy the action of apocalyptic events. These movies are growing in popularity and really hit a cord for modern audiences who are faced with the reality of the end-of-the-world daily. If someone isn’t prophesying it, then there is definitely a new hit movie with this theme in mind. However music hasn’t breeched the topic yet and it makes for a refreshing perspective on the topic. This refreshing aspect and the bands professionalism make the song My Metallic Dream a hit.
