The American Music Awards Announces Top 50 Qualifiers For The First-Ever Coca-Cola New Music Award

LOS ANGELES, August 2001 - The top 50 qualifiers for the 'American Music Awards Presents the Coca-Cola New Music Award' were announced today by a panel of judges and are featured on www.newmusicaward.com. The top 50 unsigned musical talents span a diverse range of musical genres including alternative, R&B, hip-hop, country and latin. The Coca-Cola New Music Award competition was announced in June and received more than eight hundred entries.

"We received hundreds of entries, so it was an incredible challenge narrowing the field to just 50 qualifiers," said Bobby Haber, founder and CEO of CMJ. "From this talented group of 50 artists it will be an even tougher job to select the top 10 quarter-finalists who will perform live at the upcoming CMJ Music Marathon."

Dick Clark and Bobby Haber will next select ten quarter-finalists from the 50 qualifiers to perform in a playoff competition on September 13 at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. After reviewing the ten performances, Dick Clark and Bobby Haber along with a music industry personality will choose five semi-finalists to participate in a college market tour around the country, culminating in a semi-finalist showdown at College Station, TX where three finalists will be selected. Three finalists will compete for the Coca-Cola New Music Award in Los Angeles on January 7, 2002, days prior to the AMA telecast on January 9, 2002.

This brand new music award category created by The American Music Awards&Mac226; (AMAs), The Coca-Cola Company, dick clark communications (DCC) and The CMJ Network (CMJ) will honor the best unsigned band or artist in America. The winner will perform live on The 29th Annual American Music Awards telecast on January 9, 2002 on ABC-TV, an unprecedented opportunity for emerging talent.

"This new award category sponsored by Coca-Cola is an exciting addition to the American Music Awards," said Dick Clark, AMA creator and executive producer, "Starting with these top 50 qualifiers, we are helping to discover the new music stars of today."

The chosen 50 finalists are as follows: Adam Stokes (Austin, TX), Analena (Fort Worth, TX), Annette Farrington (Boston, MA), Audra & The Antidote (Nashville, TN), Belle Canto (Stamford, CT), blooka (Bethpage, NY), Blue Dahlia (Kalamazoo, TX), Brain Rakes (Chicago, IL), Carbon Leaf (Richmond, VA), Cheerleadr (Boston, MA), Dawn Landes (New York), dotFash (Ft.
