MP3.com Celebrates 200,000th Artist Milestone
SAN DIEGO, April 2 -- MP3.com, Inc., home to one of the world's largest collections of streaming and downloadable music, today announced that its vast artist community has reached a historic milestone with the addition of its 200,000th artist. The Celtic-influenced pop-rock group, The Itinerants, joins MP3.com's family of diverse artists and adds its unique flare to the company's ever-expanding roster of independent and established acts. The Itinerants artist page can be found at http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/373/the_itinerants.html . "This landmark addition of our 200,000th artist is of great significance to music fans and artists alike," states Derrick Oien, president of Vivendi Universal Net USA's Music & Media Group, which includes MP3.com. "We add over 200 artists a day and provide music fans with an expansive catalog of over 1.3 million free artist tracks from the largest artist community on the Internet, more than double that of our nearest competitor. This milestone further solidifies MP3.com as the resource for artists to gain unsurpassed exposure to a global audience." The Itinerants, a Celtic-influenced pop-rock group from New York City, is the brainchild of members Eric Parker and Pat Robinson. The band's self-described style is "equal parts Pogues and Allman Brothers but with a ton of Asbury Park (NJ) thrown in." Robinson, the Itinerants' lead singer/primary songwriter and longtime fan of MP3.com, was encouraged to upload his music to the site by Dean Sciarra, music marketing director of ItsAboutMusic.com, the online e-label to which The Itinerants is signed. "MP3.com has created the best service for the indie artist, so, like all forty-seven of our e-label artists, it was only a natural step for The Itinerants to become members," says Sciarra. "Although luck of the draw played a big part in the band becoming the 200,000th artist, I'm glad it was them because they're so damn good at what they do." To congratulate The Itinerants on its milestone contribution to MP3.com, the band will be awarded with a Fender guitar and will appear on the MP3.com homepage as the site's featured artist. In addition, the band will be promoted throughout the site's artist area and via various newsletters to the MP3.com communities. MP3.com's artists reach millions of music fans each month through a variety of flexible, innovative services. Through the creation of their own promotional websites where they can upload music, graphics, bios, contact information etc., artists retain ultimate control over their art while gaining unprecedented exposure. MP3.com offers comprehensive daily statistics, band booking services, the Payback for Playback cash earning program, premium artist services and more to provide extra incentive as its artist community members seek to capitalize on their talent.
