Indie Sector Alert: Online Radio Station Launches Campaign To Right Internet Fraud
Website: http://www.garageradio.com Among the independent music scene there is a new question. What happened to the US Music Tradeshow (USMT)? The USMT promoted a contest introduced on MP3.com and sponsored by them and several other companies. The contest, named “3000 Screaming Fans”, required a $20 entry fee and was supposed to award 250 winners an opportunity to perform at the tradeshow. The sponsors appear to have pulled out of the promotion and the promoters (USMT) have not contacted any of the artists who entered the contest regarding the status of the event or any refunding of entry fees. Garage Radio, a voice for the independent music community, is investigating the possibility that this was a scheme to con artists by preying on their hopes and dreams. “It’s just sickening that our community has to deal with these types of situations. Everybody here works too hard for their music and their money just to have some front for a scam steal it from them,” stated John Foxworthy, Chief Editor for Garage Radio, “We need to make an example of these guys to send the message that we’re not going to tolerate it!” Through various attempts to contact MP3.com, USMT and the other sponsors, either Garage Radio or any of the artists have been able to get any responses. Any one who has been victim in this promotion is urged to contact the IFCC (Internet Fraud Complaint Center) at http://www1.ifccfbi.gov/index.asp and make a complaint. Information on the USMT web site owner can be found by performing a “whois” search at www.networksolutions.com for usmusictradeshow.com. Enough complaints will prompt the FBI to do a full investigation and possibly recover the entry fees. For more information about 3000 Screaming Fans please contact John Foxworthy at roadrash@garageradio.com.
