Von Cello Breaks The Spiritual Barrier!

Oxford Univerisity Press has just released his Judaic Concert Suite! Under his given name, Aaron Minsky, this is his seventh title and thirteenth book published by Oxford. (Some titles were pubished in multi book form for several instruments.) With his previous releases, Aaron has become known around the world as the creator of a new popular style of cello playing. The following was recently written by David Johnstone, a British concert cellist, living in Spain, who regularly performs and records Minsky’s music: “There are a number of works for the cello which, although not apparent in their time, have changed the course of cello writing or at the least have had a telling influence on the next generation of cello literature. We all know about the Bach Six Suites, a great and singular work of about 1720...the concerto of Dvorak in the 1890's...the Kodaly Solo Sonata of 1915...and too it's worth mentioning the Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante which came to its finished state in the post World War II days. And now we come to AARON MINSKY. Maybe at the moment less known than his renowned predecessors, I predict that his work for cello may well assume a similar importance.“ With the release of Judaic Concert Suite, Aaron has expanded his composing beyond the trends of modern popular music, expressing ideas of an eternal nature. In fact, this music expresses in sound, traditional Jewish beliefs about the unification of man and God, and is a call to all people to open their minds to higher thoughts. How many rock stars have written music dealing with spiritual concepts? How many have expressed those ideas in sound, without lyrics? As he has broken the musical barrier between classical music and rock, he has now broken the spiritual barrier: a barrier that has often kept Jewish spirituality out of both classical and rock music.
