Music Gorilla, a new and fast-growing resource in the online repertoire of both independent musicians, and label scouts was started by, Alexia Helfand, Beth Mitchell, and Lawrence Erlichman, and is a company that uses their website as the outlet for musicians and the music industry to hook up. Each one brought a unique contribution toward making Music Gorilla a success. The concept  first started with  musician friends discussing the possibility of developing their own publishing company that would showcase their roster online; this vision never materialized, and  Lawrence and Beth moved forward,  took a different approach, and developed Music Gorilla. They  realized how difficult it is for musicians to get noticed in the music industry, and how hard it is for the industry to have the accessibility to  all the great music being made. MusicGorilla.com, is the solution. They hooked up with Alexia who had the relationships that enabled Music Gorilla to become a reality.

Music Gorilla began with established and trusted relationships in the music industry, and was built specifically for the needs of the  A & R community. The industry agreed to be a part of Music Gorilla as long as there were no intrusive on-line advertisements, and if any deals were struck between the industry and the artists, Music Gorilla could not take a percentage. They have agreements from representatives of Sony, American Recordings (Universal) Geffen Records, Deeper Rekords, Astron Records, Working Music, Everfine Records, RCA, Reunion/Essential, Lava, Jive, Surfdog, Hollywood Records, Black Rose Productions, Courtright Management, Inc, Solar Flare Records and BLR Entertainment to name a few and more continue to join as word spreads about this free service. Music Gorilla offers a unique guarantee that each artist's music will be heard by select music industry insiders, from A&R reps at the biggest major labels to the most select Indie labels, or 100% of their membership fee is returned to them.

MusicGorilla.com helps the musicians build, host and showcase their music to the music industry 24/7. Bands that join the site must realize that their songs are going to stream directly to the Labels. Therefore, they should  upload songs that best represent them as emerging artists. Music Gorilla also helps them build a fan base, sell their music and merchandise in a personalized band store, find gigs, keep up to date with the latest music news, and enjoy discounted offers on products and services. They also provide bands with discounts for CD duplication, electronic press kits, and band merchandise. They provide their artists with Gorilla Guru, articles that focus on the ups and downs, and what they can expect while trying to make it in the music industry.

A unique opportunity Music Gorilla features for their members, is sponsoring Nationwide showcases  that provide the bands a chance to perform  live in  front  of industry representatives. Six bands previously played for a representative of Sony Records at Music Gorilla's initial live showcase. The second showcase was held in Austin, at Antone's nightclub. The showcase featured: Motionside (Austin), Common Ground (Waco), WakingNorman (Dallas), Nooner (Austin), The Avenjahs (St. Louis) and the VP of A&R for Hollywood Records was in attendance. Music Gorilla will have future showcases in Dallas, Houston and the West Coast.

With no advertising or a cut from either party, how does Music Gorilla keep the lights on? Music Gorilla offers the bands all of these services by  charging a small yearly membership fee ($24.95 per month, $64.95 quarterly or $229.95 a savings of $70 if paid upfront), and through their referral program, an artist can recoup their entire membersip fee. Music Gorilla offers three different memberships to choose from, and their fan based membership (listeners) is 100% free of charge. Music Gorilla is a bands opportunity to form a relationship with the music industry.

Alexia's background in the entertainment industry, began as an intern for Tribeca Productions (Robert DeNiro) and Creative Film Management (commercial production). After graduating from New York University, she worked at Miramax films, and freelanced on The Family Man and Someone Like You  with Executive Producer Lynda Obst. She joined Local 161 as an Assistant Production Coordinator on the television show Big Apple. She moved  from her hometown of New York City to Austin, and  worked on Spy Kids 2 and Once Upon A Time In Mexico with Elizabeth Avellan and Robert Rodriguez.

Lawrence, an entrepreneur at heart, has been consumed by music his entire life. He owned and operated his first successful business venture at 19 years of age – a stationary store in Nyack, New York. Lawrence continued to surround himself with people trying to break into the music industry, and wanted to help them in any way he could. Realizing that his forte was in business, he would soon develop Music Gorilla.

Beth, an advocate at heart, with a degree in law, works for  Advocacy Incorporated, a non-profit organization that advocates for persons with disabilities. She also has a passion for music, and  Music Gorilla offered her an outlet for her  passion. She is involved in Music Gorilla, not as a lawyer, but as an advocate for musicians.

In the future, Music Gorilla plans to incorporate internet radio play, video, and an opportunity for an artist to sell single songs online. Music Gorilla strives to provide musicians with everything they need to be successful all in one place.
