SEARCHING FOR TRUE TALENT

Columbia Records, the world's #1 record label, is conducting a nationwide search for undiscovered new talent in conjunction with local radio stations in several of America's biggest urban music centers: May 2-Chicago (WGCI), May 3-Boston (WILD), May 8-Dallas (KKDA), May 9-San Francisco (KMEL) and May 15-Atlanta (WHTA). The National Grand Prize winner, chosen from the finalists in each city, will win a recording session with Columbia Records and world famous producers Track Masters.

In the search for "True Talent," Columbia Records will hold talent shows in specially-selected venues in each of the cities. In each urban center, five semi-finalists will be chosen from scores of aspiring future music stars before that city's "True Talent" finalist is selected.

The finalist from each city will be flown to New York for a "True Talent" showdown later this spring. The "True Talent" Grand Prize Winner will receive the opportunity to cut a recording for Columbia Records with the legendary producers Poke & Tone, well-known throughout the music industry and fandom as Track Masters. The First Prize winner, in each city, will receive $1,500 worth of studio time in the local studio of his/her choice before being flown to New York to compete for the Grand Prize. Second Prize winners in each market will receive a portable 8-track home recorder. Third Prize winners in each market will receive a Sony CD Walkman and every new Columbia Records urban music release for an entire year.

In a career spanning more than a decade, Track Masters have been credited on recording projects that have sold more than 30 million units in the U.S. alone. These include the writing and producing of hugely-successful Columbia recordings for Will Smith, Mariah Carey, and Nas as well as non-Columbia projects for the Notorious B.I.G., LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige, Tupac and numerous others.

One of the oldest and most respected record labels in the world, Columbia Records was one of the first companies to recognize the potential of recorded music. The label boasts an artist roster including such legendary and contemporary superstars as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, Cypress Hill, Kris Kross, Lauryn Hill, the Fugees, Nas, and many more.
