Three Imaginary Girls Reveal Best Northwest Releases Of 2005 Readers' Poll Results, Winners' Live Music Showcase On Jan. 20

Bookmark and Share

What are the top 100 reasons to love the Northwest music scene? Death Cab for Cutie. Tullycraft. The Decemberists. And the 97 other bands who ranked in the Three Imaginary Girls Best Northwest Releases of 2005 Readers' Poll.

ThreeImaginaryGirls.com is a Seattle-based online publication that focuses on great independent music, particularly bands based in the Pacific-Northwest. The site's third annual readers' poll ñ which ran through December and received thousands of votes for over 400 bands ñ had some expected winners, as well as some surprises.

Three Imaginary Girls will host a winners' showcase at Neumos on January 20th to celebrate (details below), and local independent music store Sonic Boom Records will feature the top 10 winners in all three of their retail stores.

Not surprisingly, Death Cab for Cutie topped the list of winners, as 2005 featured a major label debut, Grammy nomination, and multiple appearances on TV's The OC, among other milestones, for this long-time Northwest music staple. Portland storytellers The Decemberists (#3) and critically-acclaimed veterans Sleater-Kinney (#8) were also among those who topped the list.

Other favorites who placed included the hook-laden indie-pop of Tullycraft (#2), the brainy, infectious hip-hop of Blue Scholars (#6), the sake-fueled punk of Buttersprites (#7), the danceable, postmodern melodies of Daylight Basement (#13), and the gentle melancholy pop of Math & Physics Club (#20).

"We're incredibly excited about our best of readers' poll this year," said Three Imaginary Girls co-founder Dana Bos. "The quality and diversity of Northwest music - and the enthusiasm of the fans supporting it - is simply staggering."

The Top 20 winners of the readers' poll include:

1. Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
2. Tullycraft - Disenchanted Hearts Unite
3. The Decemberists - Picaresque {review}
4. Slender Means - Neon & Ruin {review}
5. Stars Of Track & Field - You Came Here For Sunset Last Year {review}
6. Blue Scholars - The Long March
7. Buttersprites - Buttersprites
8. Sleater Kinney - The Woods
9. Mon Frere - Real Vampires
10. Harvey Danger - Little By Little
11. The Hot Rollers - Got Your Number
12. The Long Winters - Ultimatum
13. Daylight Basement - Any Kind of Pretty
14. Tea For Julie - Division
15. The Divorce - The Gifted Program

17. New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
18. Schoolyard Heroes - Fantastic Wounds
