STEVE MADDEN'S GIRL BAND SEARCH FINALISTS GO TOE-TO-TOE
Jill Gioia Born and raised in Stony Brook, New York, Jill Gioia is a singer and songwriter with a long list of credits to her name. Her recording of "Silent Night" was featured on a 1998 holiday CD to benefit the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. That same year, she performed as a back-up singer to David Cassidy on The View. In the late 1990s, she was seen on club stages throughout the New York area as the lead singer with Wonderama. In 1994, Gioia was a Star Search semi-finalist, during which time she appeared on six shows. She has been featured in such publications as Billboard, Island Ear, and Songwriter's Monthly. As an actor, she has recently appeared on Law & Order Special Victims Unit, Third Watch, Sex And The City, and The Sopranos. Fran Lucci Since the release of her debut solo album, "MANDAYS," in 1999, singer/songwriter Fran Lucci has been performing throughout the Los Angeles area with the newly formed band, the Muse. As a member of the Holograms, she toured Europe last summer in support of the band's independently released album. Lucci performed as a finalist in her hometown of Philadelphia as part of 1999's Lilith Fair Unsigned Artist contest. In addition, her song, "Sheree," reached #1 on the Farmclub.com website, following her appearance on the debut episode of Farmclub, while her "Mistakes I Made" was featured on a recent episode of Dawson's Creek. In addition, "I Believe In," a song she co-wrote, was recorded by Jennifer Love Hewitt for her 1996 self-titled second solo album. Steve Madden introduced the Rock N' Sole: The Girl Band Search, along with Atlantic Group artists Angela V'a and Bif Naked, on April 13th during an exclusive AOL web chat. Rock N' Sole marked its kick-off with an April 14th press conference from the Steve Madden showroom in New York City, followed by a special performance from Angela V'a. Beginning on April 14th, entry blanks for "The Girl Band Search" were made available at nearly 2,000 retail outlets nationwide - including Steve Madden Stores, Journeys, Dillard's, Nordstrom, and Sam Goody. Contest entry forms were also available on the Steve Madden website at www.stevemadden.com. Steve Madden teamed with MTV.com to promote Rock N' Sole, tying in with MTV's "2Gether" micro-site. The two-month long sponsorship, initiated with the contest launch, included a weekly audio selection of Girl Band Search entrants. In conjunction with the Rock N' Sole campaign, Atlantic Records prepared a special Rock N' Sole compilation CD featuring tracks from six label artists: Angela V'a, Ashley Ballard, Bif Naked, Catatonia, Beth Hart, and M2M. Consumers picking up any one of the new Atlantic Group albums from Catatonia, Beth Hart, or M2M at a Sam Goody, On Cue, or Media Play retail outlet received the compilation CD as a gift with purchase. The compilation was also available as a gift with any shoe purchase at all Steve Madden Stores, Journeys, Dillard's, and Nordstrom.
