Fratellis' Frontman Jon Lawler Launches Side Project Codeine Velvet Club

Fratellis' frontman Jon Lawler has launched the new musical project Codeine Velvet Club with singer/songwriter Lou Hickey, and has joined the Dangerbird roster for management and Records. Their self-titled debut will be released digitally March 16 followed by an April 6 physical release.

The collaboration of Codeine Velvet Club began when Lawler, taking a break from whirlwind touring and recording with The Fratellis, teamed up with Hickey to work on a track - the jazz-noir, big-band duet titled "Vanity Kills" - for her record. The song inspired the duo to embark on a full-fledged project together. The resulting album features an elegant orchestral score written by Mick Cooke of Belle & Sebastian, backing vocals by the Gospel Truth Choir and strings parts recorded by renowned classical musicians, including legendary trumpeter Derek Watkins.

CVC will perform Dangerbird's SXSW party at Mellow Johnny's on Saturday, March 20, followed by a week of dates with Metric.

Dangerbird Records was co-founded by Jeff Castelaz and Peter Walker in 2004, following the inception of Dangerbird Management, which evolved from Castelaz's longstanding Cast Management. The label currently boasts an impressive roster including Silversun Pickups, Sea Wolf, Darker My Love, Eulogies, The Dears, The One AM Radio, Eric Avery, Bad Veins and Dappled Cities. The management division currently represents artists including Eagles of Death Metal, The Dears and Darker My Love, as well as producer Tony Hoffer.
