2013 BEGINS WITH AWARD WINNING RECOGNITION FOR UNSIGNED ARTIST
A little less than a 18 months ago, singer/songwriter ILONA played her first ever live gig, performing the one and only song she had written at that point! Since then, she has built up a repertoire of more than 20 original tunes, released an EP on her own label, toured the UK twice and played at the prestigious SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. She has headlined the Hop Farm acoustic stage, featured on the Caffe Nero national playlist, gigged in LA, jammed with Ed Sheeran and even headlined one of the most northerly venues in the world, in Tromso at the top of Norway.
But in the last days of 2012 everything stepped up a gear when she discovered that the video for her song “Its 1966” had won the top spot in the Ladylake 3rd Annual Indie Music Awards.
Based in Florida, LadyLake Music is an international indie music promotions company who have been instrumental in helping to highlight hundreds of independent artists around the world. Founded in 2006 they have built an enviable reputation throughout the US radio and media world and now the growing success and prominence of their INDIE MUSIC AWARDS is raising the bar even higher for emerging music. Cindy D’Adamo, CEO of Ladylake Music says “We are proud to have watched and supported ILONA’S career as she continues to grow in popularity! We enjoy her music and are excited to present her with the indie video award.
ILONA had wanted to be a singer since the earliest age, but it was only after a chance meeting in 2011 with songwriter/producer/promoter Tony Moore (founder of the legendary Kashmir Klub and original keyboard player for Cutting Crew) that her ambition became a reality.
With no previous experience in the music business, she soon found herself writing songs and regularly performing shows as Tony took on the role of Manager, co-writer, producer and musical director. “I heard such a special tone in her voice when she first sang for me that I knew ILONA had the potential to go all the way” said Tony “ I am very proud of her for winning this award as it shows that people have really recognised all the hard work that she has put into her career so far”
Born in Bulgaria to a Russian Mother, Ilona moved to the UK when she was 14. She has always had a natural ability to communicate, speaking fluent Russian, Bulgarian, English and German. ILONA studied at the renowned Queen Mary University in London where she specialized in languages before embarking on her music career. ILona says 'I'm honoured and excited to receive my first ever award in music, especially as I am an independent Artist'
