(Long Beach, CA): Thomas Smith and James Darrell Williams will be bringing their new book, 'Which One Am I' to a series of events in Southern California with a little help from long time friend Kelly Z. Laced with a few songs from Kelly's new CD. 'Plain Simple Me' , readings from the book will be shared to audiences as they learn about Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) through the story of Darrell’s life growing up with multiple personalities.
The tour launches Wed, Jan. 23, 7 p.m.at Cahuenga General Store (5510 Cahuenga Blvd., North Hollywood, California) with more dates throughout California to be announced. (Please see complete list of dates above.) Thomas, Darrell and Kelly will be signing books and CDs as well as taking questions following each free event. ‘Which One Am I?’ is no standard memoir. From the beginning of the research – annotated in the eight pages that end the book – the writers dedicated themselves to unraveling the social and family functions that caused Darrell’s multiple personalities. Most of Darrell’s story occurs in West Memphis, though he also experienced life-changing events in Memphis itself where, as an abandoned teen, he found solace as a drag queen and eventually found his way out of the South and into Long Beach.
Kelly Z has a knack for writing songs about others with empathy and a keen sense of the suffering she feels in others. She will blend the songs from her fresh new acoustic CD ‘Plain Simple Me’ with Darrell's story. This unforgettable evening of words and music will allow audience members to dive into a world that will tear at the heart and teach you about the struggles of souls living on society’s edge.
