Louisiane Musician Jo-EL Sonnier Going Strong With New Management Signing, Hot Sauce, Cookbook
The music of Jo-EL Sonnier is a way of life. Steeped in passion, relentless dedication…he has been the undisputed “King of Cajun” for the past 25 years and occupies a significant place in the rich artistic landscape of this country. His fans are un-deniably dedicated, while the music industry elite – Hank Williams Jr.,Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, Robert Cray, Neil Diamond, Mark Knopfler, Elvis Costello, Merle Haggard and Dolly Parton among others, admire his work so much that the sounds of his accordion can be heard on the albums of such great legends as these. Jo-El has loaned his talent on the accordion to more than 100 Artist records. He continues to maintain a regular schedule as a session player and a headlining touring musician. As a songwriter, Jo-El has had hit songs recorded by artists such as Johnny Cash, George Strait, EmmyLou Harris, John Anderson and Jerry Lee Lewis.
What inspires Sonnier is his love for Cajun music and the Cajun culture. He continues to perform this genre of music “to insure it doesn’t die out”. It is his joie de vivre.
With five Grammy nominations under his belt for his traditional French recordings, Sonnier finally struck gold in 2015 when he won a Grammy for Best Regional Roots Music Album with his album” The Legacy”.
In October 2009, Jo-El was inducted into The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. Known for his incredible stage performance, Sonnier has performed all across the world in 28 countries and 49 states (including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Edmonton Folk Festival); throughout Europe; South America; and Japan. Among his credits, you will find acting - a role in “Mask” starring Cher and Sam Elliott, “A Thing Called Love,” and “They All Laughed.”
With 32 album releases to date, Sonnier recently signed a new management deal and is now represented veteran music industry executive D. Scott Miller and Lafayette, Louisiana entrepreneur/Acadian culture champion Jeff Hernandez. “The coolest part of the deal is a member of my team is a great songwriter who wrote one of my favorite songs that I've ever recorded back when I was on Capitol Records. He has believed in me for many years and has always wanted a chance to work with me. Now he does,” affirms Sonnier.
Sonnier has also develop his own brand Hot Sauce – Jo-EL Sonnier’s Ayeee! Cajun Power Hot Sauce - and has a new cookbook. Both are available for purchase through his facebook page and at his shows.
While Sonnier continues as Ambassador for Cajun music, he pursues his dreams of producing a young act and bringing his music to a new audience worldwide.
