Clive Gardiner To Be Named Managing Director, BMG Malaysia, BMG Entertainment
New York, May 31, 2001 -- Clive Gardiner has been appointed Managing Director, BMG Malaysia, BMG Entertainment, it was announced today by Swee Wong, Managing Director, ASEAN Region, for the company.
In his new role, effective July 1, 2001, Gardiner will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operational activities of BMG Malaysia. He will report directly to Wong and will be based in Malaysia.
"Clive brings to the territory a wealth of experience and expertise in the music industry," said Wong. "I am confident that under his leadership BMG Malaysia will continue to thrive."
Gardiner has served as Managing Director of BMG Indonesia for the last four years, a period during which BMG Indonesia has enjoyed tremendous success and growth, despite the ongoing economic, political and social turmoil within the country. In this position, Gardiner has greatly contributed to building the company into the leading multinational record label in Indonesia, with an international market share that has tripled in three years. Gardiner also played a vital role in the success of Westlife's debut album Westlife, which sold one million copies in Indonesia and was certified 20 times platinum, making it the biggest-selling international album in the country of all time.
Prior to working in Indonesia, Gardiner spent three years at BMG's Asia Pacific Regional Office as Director of Video and Interactive, where he produced a number of video/karaoke titles, including Air Supply's Greatest Hits Live, which sold one million audio copies and 100,000 video copies throughout Asia. Before joining BMG, Gardiner worked for Pioneer Europe for five years where he held various pan-European music programming, audio and video production and management roles.
Gardiner holds a Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in Applied Photography, Film and Television from Middlesex University, and is a former musician, songwriter and producer.
